Welcome back! We hope you’ve had a lovely half term.
In our topic work this week we have continued to learn about the Fire of London with a focus on how the fire ended and what happened after the fire. We discovered that 65000 people were made homeless and had to take shelter in temporary camps outside of the city or stay with other people until their houses were rebuilt. Many changes were brought about to ensure that there would never be such as disastrous fire in the city again. Ask us how London was redesigned and rebuilt so that it was much safer going forward.
Our focus in maths this week has been subtraction. We have been working practically with base ten apparatus to subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number and then to subtract 2 digit numbers from 2-digit numbers, for example: 34-7 and 36-19. In all the calculations we needed to exchange a stick of 10 for ten ones before we could take the ones digit away.
We have enjoyed focusing on Bonfire Night this week, learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot, creating artwork inspired by the Plot and learning a song about bonfire night. It was fun to share these during the Zoom collective worship on Friday.
Have a great weekend,
From the Class Two Team
