This week we have been learning about Magical Creatures, looking at images of and talking about fairies, trolls, unicorns etc.
We have been reading “A Magical Creature” by R. R. Cooper. This book has no illustrations, so each child has drawn their own illustration to accompany the story. Some have drawn a magical creature and some have depicted the character’s adventure. We will be creating a book of all the illustrations which will be on display in the classroom.
In P.E. we have been moving like creatures over the apparatus, finishing in a jump with a “two footed” landing.
In phonics we are continuing to revise familiar graphemes/phonemes/digraphs and have learnt a new digraph “oi” (imagine shouting at someone!). We have also been focusing on recognising key words such as the, on, we, like and went. A set of “tricky word” flash cards has been sent home in your child’s book bag. These words need to be learnt as they cannot be sounded out. Please let any member of the Class R team know if these are missing.
In maths we have been learning about “place value” and trying to understand that the digit 1 in the “teen numbers” represents “one ten”. E.G. 18 is one ten and 8 ones. We have been playing “place value basketball” to help us with this and the link is below:
We will be learning about rhythm over the next few weeks and the children will need their recorders in school.
Finally a few dates to remember:
Tuesday 5th March – Pancake race
Thursday 7th March – World Book day – dress a potato
Friday 15thMarch – Red Nose day- wear something red
