Welcome back! We hope you’ve had a relaxing half term.
In our final week of our Victorians topic we have been learning all about the life of Florence Nightingale. Having watched video clips and shared the information we gained from our reading homework, we planned biographies of Florence. We thought about her early life, her steps to becoming a nurse, her time nursing during the Crimean War and her achievements in nursing after that. When writing the biographies we were really focusing on presenting our work neatly, using clear sub-headings and writing only relevant information in each section.
For the early part of the week, we were working on shape in Maths, remembering the names of common 2D and 3D shapes and discussing their properties. We went for a shape hunt around the school and collected our results in tally chart. Later in the week we focused on solving reasoning problems involving addition. We are learning to use and apply the maths facts that we already know and use efficient strategies.
In ICT we have been learning about pictograms and answering questions about them. We know that we have to look carefully at all the information, particularly the key, which tells us the value of each symbol in the pictogram. Sometimes each picture represents 2, 5 or 10, for example.
This week in science we looked at all our baby pictures and tried to decide who was who! It was good fun – ask us whether we guessed people correctly and how we knew!
During our art lesson this week we looked at ourselves in mirrors and tried to draw ourselves as accurately as we could. When looking at our faces we were able to discuss how much we’ve changed since we were babies.
Have a great weekend.
