Week 2 (04/03/19)

First off, I’d like to say thanks to everyone who managed to get in this week for Parent Evening. I hope you found it useful. It’s actually something I quite enjoy because it’s a chance to catch up with you and say how well your children are getting on.

We’ve had a few different  things on at the end of this week so we haven’t covered as much ground as we would normally in class.

In maths we have just moved towards the end of this phase involving coordinates. It’s quite a nice topic because it tends to be easier on the calculation but heavier on the reasoning. Once the main skills are dialled, it tends to be an exercise in lateral thinking. We will now move off towards different forms of measurement, involving metric and imperial measures as well as time, particularly time tables.

Now that the latest composition is finished we will begin to look at some different elements of description such as effective metaphors and similes, but as always, with a focus on their impact on the writing rather than just their presence. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the children will produce in this element of the unit based on the beautiful examples that I have seen over the last week.

On Monday we will go on the Junior Citizens trip to Oxford as detailed in the previous letter. Please remember to bring a packed lunch on that day. Note that we will be back to school in time for usual dismiss so there is no need to adjust your timings at all.
