Thank you to all parents who came to an appointment this week, I hope you found it useful. If you would like any further details about your child’s progress, please let me know.
This week in English we have continued to read our abridged version of The Secret Garden. We have thought about how Mary’s character is changing and developing. We have also been discussing some of the other characters in the story. This week we have been writing our own stories based on what Mary might do when she first goes out into the garden. We thought about what she might see and who she might meet. We used this as an opportunity to rehearse our skills in speech punctuation and we have continued to explore other words for said. The use of imaginative adverbs and adjectives has also remained a focus.
In maths we completed our work using an expanded formal method for multiplication and started to learn the more traditional compact method. Throughout this, we have been applying our knowledge of place value and the times tables.
In computing this term, we are working in pairs to create a stop-frame animation. Last week we planned our animation thinking about the scenery and the characters that we will need. On Monday of this week we started to paint the inside of a box that will be used as the staging for the animation. We will be finishing these next week and then we will start to create the characters.
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. Well done to everyone who brought in a potato dressed as their favourite book character! We all really enjoyed listening to a stories read by the adults in Key Stage 2.
Today we all enjoyed a Religion Day. We spent most of the day moving around the four Key Stage 2 classes in our house groups. In each room we learnt about a different religion and we took part in a range of activities linked to the religions.
