We’ve had a busy week in Class 4 and the children are now really settled into their new routines.
In English and guided reading, we have started to read ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies. Firstly, we looked carefully at the front cover and thought about what the promise might be. We read the first few pages and we discussed what we know about the girl. We have spent a lot of time thinking about how the city is described and we have been writing our own descriptions of a city. We have also started grammar diagramming and we have been learning our key word spellings.
In Maths we have been working on place value. We started off counting in 50’s, 100’s, 25’s and 1000’s. Then later in the week we moved on to understanding what each digit in a 4 digit number represents. We have also been looking at number lines and how to carefully position numbers on the line.
In Computing we experimented with Scratch and over the next few weeks we will be creating stories linked to our English work.
In history we have started to learn about Ancient Egypt. We have thought about when Ancient Egypt was and where Egypt is. We looked carefully at pictures of objects from Ancient Egypt and thought about what they might be.
Reading records will be checked again on Monday, children are expected to read aloud at home as often as possible. Please can parents sign the record when you have heard your child read or when you have talked about a book.
