It has been a busy week in Year 4.
During our reading and English lessons we have been using ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies to explore what the city might be like. We have also been learning how to identify subjects and verbs within sentences and we are starting to understand how adjectives modify nouns. Next week we will be planning and writing a description of the city.
In maths we have been looking at place value. Earlier in the week we continued to rehearse counting in 25’s, 50’s, 100’s and 1000’s. Today we started recapping the value of digits in a number. During our fluency sessions, we have been finding pairs of numbers to 20, 50 and 100 and we have been representing these calculations on bar models.
During our history lesson this week, we continued to learn about the Maya and we started to look at daily life. We learnt about different houses that people lived in and we found out about a game called Pok-a-tok. Next week we will be learning about food and farming.
Today all children have been given their home learning book. Although there appears to be a lot of instructions, the children will hopefully get into the swing of things fairly quickly. The children have all been asked to share their home learning books with someone at home.
Have a good weekend!
