Week 2 (15/11/19)

This week in English and reading we have continued to read ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’. We have explored what has been happening to the characters and we have thought about the journey that Lila is making. We have continued to ask and answer literal questions particularly focusing on ‘who’ and ‘what’. We have been working on sentence of 3 for description and action. We have also learnt about the features of informal letters and towards the end of the week we started to plan our own letters to Lila from Lachand.

In Maths this week we started off by adding and subtracting 1’s, 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s to numbers and we applied this knowledge when we represented problems on a bar model. Later in the week we started to explore formal written addition. We will be continuing with this next week and then moving onto subtraction.

In history this week we learnt about Maya writing, we found out that the Maya used a combination of glyphs representing sounds and whole words. We also learnt that the Maya were able to be very creative with their writing, we thought that this would have made things very tricky! Finally we watched a short film about the Mayan number system, we learnt that the Maya had 3 symbols – a dot for 1, a dash for 5 and a shell for 0.

Please continue to support your child to learn their lines for the Christmas performance. We will be spending more time on rehearsals over the coming weeks.
