This week in English we have continued to read our abridged version of The Secret Garden. We have thought about how Mary’s character is changing and developing. We have also been using inference skills to discuss some of the other characters in the story. This week we have been thinking about how we can start our sentences with an expanded –ing clause e.g. Running around the garden, Mary was looking for the locked door. Towards the end of the week, we started to write our own stories based on what Mary and the garden. We thought about what she might see and who she might meet. We used this as an opportunity to rehearse our skills in speech punctuation, other words for said and sentence starters. The use of imaginative adverbs and adjectives has also remained a focus.
In maths we have been learning how to use formal multiplication. We have been making calculations using dienes, representing the problem on a bar model and then setting the calculation out in the formal method.
In computing we have continued with our stop-frame animations. We have made our models and we have been busy taking the photographs that we need for our animation. We are now nearly ready to make our films!
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. Well done to everyone who brought in a vegetable dressed as their favourite book character!
