Kung Hei Fat Choy! (Happy New Year)
We have been celebrating Chinese New Year in Class R. This is the year of the pig. The children started the week listening to a Chinese fable called “The great race” it tells the story of how each Chinese New Year got its name.
Our role play area has been turned into a very beautiful Chinese restaurant which has inspired lots of menu writing and budding chefs have been creating exciting menu’s.
During phonic’s we have continued practising digraphs, writing them from memory and using phonic knowledge to decode. We have also recapped on tricky words such as No, Go, The, To, I, She ,He.
In Maths we have moved on to height, talking about how tall and how high objects are. We measured everyday objects using non uniform measure, unifix and cubes to describe how high objects are. The children were encouraged to use comparison when looking at different objects eg The Fairy castle is higher than the fort.
We have also been learning about the German painter/printer Franz Marc. The children have all had a go painting a picture inspired by his work.
