"We  have over-protected our children  in the real work whilst under-protecting them online."

Parenting in a Digital Age: What you need to know 12/11/24

Many parents say 'they wished they had know this sooner'

  • Your child is as only protected as their peer with the loosest access rules.
  • It only take sone adverse childhood event to set your child on a different mental health trajectory.
  • Think smart phone, think internet access in your children's pocket!

Mobile phones

  • Our curriculum does not require students of any age to have a mobile phone in school.
  • The curriculum 7, 8 and 9 at Wallingford Secondary School (where many of our children move on to) does not require students to have a mobile phone in school.

We discourage phones. If you choose to allow your year 5 or 6 child to bring a phone  to school, they must hand it in on arrival and will not have access to it during the day.

Mindfulness for Parents

  • What screen time habits are you modelling?
  • Do you feel you have full control over your screen time use
  • Do you feel anxious if you don't know where your phone is?
  • Does your partner complain you are always on your phone?
  • Do you scroll through your phone whilst watching a movie?
  • Practice mindful use of your phone daily
