Being a Church School

Being a Church School

The first years of schooling are among the most important of a child’s life. It is during these formative years that children gain the skills and the confidence to allow them to achieve success in later life.  At Crowmarsh Gifford Church of England School, we help the children truly become the ‘best they can be’ at everything they do.

We aim to serve the community by providing education of the highest quality, embedded within a distinctive Christian ethos. We encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promote Christian values in all we do, whilst recognising and developing the diversity of individuals to allow every pupil to achieve their full potential.

Our church, St Mary Magdalene, is in walking distance from the school.  Therefore, we hold one whole school service there once a month as well as participate in many of the Church Festivals throughout the year such as Harvest, Christmas, Easter, etc.  Further, we have the church wardens as well as local pastors and vicars come and deliver regular collective worship in our school hall.

The school is an integral part of the community and held in high regard.  Our children enjoy coming to school; they are happy, secure and they enjoy learning.  We are an inclusive school where all members of our school family are valued as individuals and for the contributions they make.  Our Christian ethos ensures that children are taught to be thoughtful, caring and generous towards each other; putting others’ needs first.  Everything we do as a school is underpinned by our five core
values; kindness, resilience, integrity, courage and curiosity.

Service is of utmost importance as we always seek ways in which to teach children about ‘doing for others.’  Every year the children choose a charity to support and help to raise money through various fundraising activities.  Our local community is of utmost importance and at Harvest the children deliver parcels of food items to older members and families of the village.  At Christmas and Easter the children deliver biscuits and chocolate eggs to remind our senior citizens that Crowmarsh School is always thinking about them.

We have high expectations of all our children and truly expect them to have the attitude to ‘be their very best’ in all that they do.  As part of this, we help children to develop their own goals and attain them, while learning essential character traits such as resilience and tenacity.

Everything we offer as a school is richly enhanced by our Christian values.  The impact of this ethos is evidenced by our outstanding results, teaching, behaviour and attitudes of all involved.  Our school and our church are at the heart of the local community, working together as a cohesive team to promote high levels of behaviour, respect and ‘service,’ demonstrated through the teaching of Jesus and rooted in Christian values.   Whilst we are a Church of England School, we teach children to respect other worldwide religions and beliefs and to understand the value of ‘faith.’
